Private equity and venture capital investments in India increased 45 per cent year-on-year to USD 7 billion in September 2026, recording their highest monthly value in more than two years, according to an EY-IVCA report.
Investment activity also increased 21 per cent compared with USD 5.8 billion in August, making September the strongest month for PE/VC investments so far in 2026.
During the July-September quarter, investments rose 46 per cent year-on-year to USD 17.1 billion, compared with USD 11.7 billion in the corresponding period last year. On a sequential basis, investments more than doubled from USD 7.6 billion in the April-June quarter.
Large transactions accounted for 76 per cent of total investments during the September quarter. A total of 36 large deals worth USD 13 billion were recorded, with KKR’s USD 1.4 billion acquisition of Medicover India emerging as the largest transaction.
Infrastructure attracted the highest sectoral investment of USD 7.2 billion, followed by healthcare at USD 3.1 billion. Buyout transactions accounted for USD 5.1 billion, while startup investments stood at USD 4.8 billion.
However, the number of deals declined 9 per cent year-on-year to 348 during the quarter.
PE/VC exits totalled USD 10.4 billion across 113 transactions, down 24 per cent from the previous year. The report said investors are expected to remain selective, focusing on profitability, capital returns and business resilience amid inflationary pressures and elevated crude oil prices.
