The company has operationalised solar projects in Rajasthan and Gujarat, strengthening its renewable energy portfolio in India.
Global energy company ENGIE has started operations at two solar power projects in India with a combined capacity of 450 MW, adding to its renewable energy portfolio in the country.
The operational projects include a 250-MW solar facility at Khaba in Rajasthan and a 200-MW project at Khavda in Gujarat.
The Khaba project, located in Barmer district, has been developed through Khaba Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of ENGIE. The facility is expected to generate approximately 650 GWh of electricity annually and avoid nearly 180 kilotonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
The Gujarat project is situated within the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in the Rann of Kutch. Developed through Enren II Energy Pvt Ltd, it is contracted to supply electricity to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
The Khavda facility is expected to generate around 350 GWh of electricity annually.
ENGIE said approximately 80 per cent of the construction workforce for the two projects was hired locally.
The company has around 2 GW of renewable energy capacity in operation or under construction in India. It has also secured battery energy storage projects as part of its expansion into renewable generation and energy flexibility solutions.
