The lender is investigating a potential exposure involving vehicle loan customer information stored on a third-party SaaS platform.
AU Small Finance Bank has launched an investigation into a potential data leak involving information related to its vehicle loan customers, following claims by a hacker group that it had breached the lender’s cyber defences.
In a statement on Friday, the bank said the potential incident involved a software-as-a-service platform managed and hosted by Salesforce, which holds limited information relating to vehicle loan customers.
The lender stated that its own systems remained unaffected and that banking operations were continuing normally.
The hacker group claimed that the compromised information included Know Your Customer records, personal identification documents, Permanent Account Number details and Aadhaar information.
However, the bank’s investigation into the potential exposure was ongoing at the time of its statement.
The development comes amid increased attention on cybersecurity risks affecting financial institutions in India, with reports of potential cyber incidents involving other major banks in recent days.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also highlighted the threat of cyberattacks to the Indian economy and urged stakeholders to strengthen cybersecurity preparedness.
AU Small Finance Bank is currently transitioning towards becoming a universal bank.
