The Election Commission has declared voting at three polling stations in the Agra Teachers’ constituency void and ordered fresh polling on October 26 following reports of serious irregularities during the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council election.
Agra, October 25 — The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered a repoll at three polling stations in the Agra Teachers’ constituency for the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council election after declaring the earlier voting at these locations null and void.
Fresh polling will be held on October 26, 2026.
The Election Commission’s decision followed reports of serious irregularities during polling held on October 23, as well as complaints raised by the Samajwadi Party candidate and his supporters.
The three polling stations identified for repolling are:
- Booth No. 20: Tehsil premises, Kheragarh, Room No. 1
- Booth No. 21: Kshetra Panchayat office, Saiyan, Room No. 1
- Booth No. 26: Kshetra Panchayat office, Fatehabad, Room No. 1
The ECI has also sought an investigation into the circumstances that led to the repoll decision, with the aim of determining what went wrong and fixing responsibility.
The controversy emerged after Samajwadi Party candidate Dr Akash Agarwal alleged booth capturing, harassment of supporters and other electoral irregularities during voting in the Agra Teachers’ constituency.
His allegations came amid tensions in Fatehabad, where an SP polling agent also reportedly accused BJP workers of assault. These remain allegations and were not independently established in the available reports.
The Agra Teachers’ constituency recorded 59.82% voter turnout in the October 23 election.
Across Uttar Pradesh, elections were held for 11 Legislative Council seats — five Graduates’ constituencies and six Teachers’ constituencies. Around 14.81 lakh registered voters were eligible to participate.
The wider contest is politically significant because it is being closely watched by both the BJP and Samajwadi Party ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.
Counting for the Legislative Council elections is scheduled for October 27, a day after the repoll in the three affected Agra booths.
