Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Reserve Bank of India’s new Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, calling the facilities a major step towards strengthening India’s digital banking infrastructure and financial-system security.
Bhubaneswar, October 25 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Reserve Bank of India’s newly established Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, saying the facilities would help make India’s banking system more efficient, reliable and secure.
The Prime Minister said the new infrastructure represents an important step towards strengthening the country’s digital financial architecture and cybersecurity capabilities.
According to the PIB release, the new RBI Data Centre will support stronger computing and digital infrastructure, while the Cybersecurity Training Institute will focus on preparing skilled personnel to respond to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
Modi said the previous decade had focused on bringing more people into the formal banking system, while the coming decade should focus on improving the efficiency and reliability of banking services.
He highlighted the rapid growth of digital banking and said citizens now have access to banking services around the clock.
The Prime Minister also pointed to the expansion of financial inclusion through schemes such as Jan Dhan Yojana, Mudra Yojana, PM SVANidhi and PM Vishwakarma.
He said nearly 60 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened, while 13 crore people became first-time entrepreneurs under Mudra Yojana.
Modi stressed that cybersecurity has become increasingly important as India’s economy and digital banking ecosystem expand.
He said modern conflicts are no longer limited to conventional weapons and that economies can also be targeted through cyberattacks.
The Prime Minister therefore called for stronger protection of the banking system from cyber criminals and cyber terrorists, supported by modern infrastructure, technology and trained human resources.
The new facilities are also part of a broader push to strengthen Odisha’s role in India’s technology and financial-services ecosystem.
Modi said Odisha is moving beyond its traditional mineral-based industries and building capabilities in areas such as semiconductors, electronics, data centres and advanced computing.
He described the transition as a move from “mines to microchips”, saying it could create new opportunities for young people in the state.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the expansion of social-security coverage, noting that Atal Pension Yojana covers 9 crore citizens, while accident and life insurance schemes have brought low-cost protection to millions of families.
The inauguration comes at a time when India’s financial system is increasingly dependent on digital infrastructure, making resilience, secure data processing and cybersecurity training critical to the stability of the banking sector.
