New Delhi, October 29, 2026: The Finance Ministry has upgraded India’s economic growth forecast for the financial year 2026–27 (FY27) to 7.3%, reflecting confidence in resilient domestic demand, investment activity and structural reforms. The revised projection comes despite persistent global uncertainties, geopolitical tensions and volatile energy prices.
According to the ministry’s latest Monthly Economic Review, India’s economic performance has remained stronger than earlier expectations, supported by domestic consumption and investment.
Growth Forecast Revised Upward
The ministry has raised its GDP growth estimate to 7.3% from the earlier projected range of 6.8–7.2%.
India’s economy recorded 7.8% real GDP growth in the first quarter of FY27, providing a strong foundation for the full financial year.
The report noted that the upward revision reflects the economy’s ability to maintain momentum despite external pressures.
However, the ministry cautioned that rising global uncertainties, geopolitical developments, energy price fluctuations and food supply disruptions could affect economic activity.
Global Institutions Expect Strong Growth
Several international institutions have also revised their growth expectations for India.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised its FY27 growth projection to 7%, while the World Bank and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) expect growth of 7.1%.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has also projected GDP growth of 7.1% for the current financial year.
These estimates underline India’s relatively strong economic outlook amid a challenging global environment.
Domestic Demand to Support Economy
The Finance Ministry highlighted domestic demand, investment and structural reforms as important drivers of economic expansion.
Strong consumption trends and continued investment are expected to support economic activity over the coming months.
The ministry also pointed to the importance of maintaining economic resilience as external challenges continue.
Risks to Growth Remain
Despite the optimistic outlook, the ministry warned that global trade tensions, geopolitical risks and volatile commodity prices could create pressure on the economy.
Uncertainty surrounding international trade and energy markets remains a concern for policymakers.
The report indicated that sustaining economic momentum will depend on effectively managing emerging cost pressures and external uncertainties.
With the revised 7.3% growth forecast, India is expected to maintain strong economic expansion in FY27, although global developments could influence the final outcome.
