The Commerce Ministry has organised an outreach programme in Jaipur to help exporters understand and make better use of opportunities available under India’s free trade agreements.
New Delhi, October 17 — The Commerce Ministry has organised an outreach programme in Jaipur to create awareness among exporters about opportunities available under India’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
The programme was aimed at helping businesses understand the benefits available under trade agreements and improve their ability to use preferential market access in overseas markets.
According to the ministry, the initiative seeks to help Indian enterprises convert tariff and market-access benefits available under FTAs into actual export opportunities.
The programme focused on targeted information, capacity building and practical guidance for exporters.
It also emphasised closer coordination among the Department of Commerce, state governments, industry associations and exporters to improve utilisation of trade agreements.
FTAs generally provide participating countries with preferential tariff treatment and easier market access for specified goods and services, but businesses need to understand rules of origin, documentation and other requirements to fully benefit from these agreements.
The Commerce Ministry’s outreach effort is therefore aimed at bridging information gaps and helping exporters better understand how to access overseas markets under existing trade arrangements.
The ministry highlighted Rajasthan’s export potential across several important industries.
These include textiles and garments, handicrafts, gems and jewellery, engineering goods, stone and minerals, and agricultural and processed-food products.
Rajasthan already has strong manufacturing and traditional-industry clusters in several of these sectors, giving local exporters opportunities to expand sales in markets where India has preferential trade arrangements.
The outreach programme is part of a broader effort by the government to ensure that smaller and regional businesses are able to benefit from India’s growing network of FTAs rather than leaving such advantages concentrated among larger exporters.
Improved awareness of tariff benefits and market-access rules could help exporters diversify destinations, improve competitiveness and increase shipments from Rajasthan.
