JLR brings its latest luxury electric SUV to India as it targets a scalable EV business.
Jaguar Land Rover has opened bookings in India for the Range Rover Sport Electric, bringing battery-powered technology to one of the luxury SUV brand’s key global franchises.
The Tata Motors-owned carmaker is positioning the new electric SUV as part of its broader effort to build a more scalable electric-vehicle business after the experience of its earlier I-PACE model.
Balaje Rajan, JLR’s Group Chief Strategy Officer, said the Range Rover Sport Electric combines advanced hardware and software, with digital technologies aimed at improving performance, efficiency, charging and the overall ownership experience.
The company says the new model has been developed to address some of the limitations associated with the I-PACE, particularly around manufacturing scale, battery capability and charging performance.
The Range Rover Sport Electric uses a dedicated electric architecture designed to support high-performance driving while retaining the characteristics expected from the Range Rover Sport line. The vehicle is also being positioned as an important step in JLR’s transition towards a wider portfolio of electric luxury vehicles.
The India booking announcement comes as global luxury automakers continue to expand their electric offerings. JLR is seeking to strengthen its presence in the premium EV segment while building production and technology capabilities that can support larger volumes.
The launch also reflects the growing competition in India’s luxury electric-vehicle market, where established global manufacturers are introducing battery-powered SUVs alongside premium electric models from newer players.
For JLR, the Range Rover Sport Electric represents an opportunity to combine its established luxury SUV positioning with its broader electrification strategy and build a stronger foundation for future electric models.
