The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has opened applications for the IndiaAI Fellowship 2026-27, offering up to ₹1 lakh for eligible undergraduate and integrated degree students and up to ₹2 lakh for postgraduate students working on AI-related research and projects.
New Delhi, October 22 — The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has opened applications for the IndiaAI Fellowship 2026-27, aimed at supporting students working on artificial intelligence-related projects and research.
The fellowship is part of the government’s IndiaAI Mission and is open to eligible undergraduate, Integrated Dual Degree and postgraduate students.
Applications can be submitted through the official IndiaAI fellowship portal, and the last date to apply is November 30, 2026.
Under the programme, eligible UG and IDD students can receive financial support of up to ₹1 lakh, while postgraduate students can receive up to ₹2 lakh, depending on their academic stage.
The eligibility window varies by programme.
For a three-year undergraduate programme, students can apply from the start of the fifth semester, while those in a four-year UG course are eligible from the beginning of the seventh semester.
Students pursuing a five-year Integrated Dual Degree can apply from the start of the ninth semester.
Postgraduate students are eligible during semesters one, two and three.
The fellowship also includes support for doctoral researchers.
PhD candidates will receive ₹70,000 per month during the first two years, ₹75,000 per month in the third year and ₹80,000 per month during the fourth and fifth years.
Research scholars will additionally be eligible for a research grant of ₹2 lakh per year, including institutional overheads capped at 10%.
The programme also offers support for presenting research at international conferences.
Students whose AI research papers are accepted at international conferences with an h5 rating above 100 can receive a one-time grant of up to ₹1 lakh towards travel and accommodation expenses.
The IndiaAI Fellowship is designed to encourage students to work on cutting-edge artificial intelligence solutions and strengthen India’s research ecosystem in the emerging technology sector.
