Hyundai Motor India is set to launch the Bayon as it looks to regain lost ground in the mid-size SUV segment, where Maruti Suzuki’s Victoris and Creta continue to dominate buyer attention.
New Delhi, October 25 — Hyundai Motor India is preparing to launch the Bayon as part of its strategy to strengthen its position in India’s highly competitive mid-size SUV market.
The new model will be positioned between the Venue and Creta, giving Hyundai another offering in one of the fastest-growing vehicle segments in the country.
The launch comes at a time when Hyundai is facing increased competition from rivals, particularly Maruti Suzuki, which has been gaining ground with models such as the Victoris.
According to the report, Maruti’s Victoris recorded sales of 72,012 units in the first half of FY27, narrowing the gap with Hyundai’s Creta.
The Creta, one of Hyundai’s strongest-selling models, recorded 89,727 units during April-September FY27, down 9.7% year-on-year.
Industry experts believe the Bayon could help Hyundai defend its position by giving customers another option in the mid-size SUV category.
The vehicle is expected to target buyers looking for something larger than the Venue but more compact and affordable than the Creta.
This positioning could help Hyundai cover a wider range of customers without stretching the Creta’s price band too far.
The challenge for Hyundai will be to ensure that the Bayon creates incremental demand rather than simply shifting buyers away from existing models.
The company is expected to focus on features, styling, technology and pricing to differentiate the Bayon in a crowded segment.
The launch will also be important because the mid-size SUV category has become one of the most contested parts of India’s passenger vehicle market.
Consumers in this segment increasingly look for premium styling, connected features, safety equipment and larger cabins, while still remaining highly price-sensitive.
Hyundai already has a strong base in SUVs, but rising competition from Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Mahindra and Kia has increased pressure on its market share.
By introducing the Bayon, Hyundai is aiming to plug the gap between two of its key models and regain momentum in a segment where competition is intensifying quickly.
