Dyson Study Reveals Major Gaps in Indian Household Cleaning Habits
Indian households spend considerable time cleaning their homes, yet many struggle to remove dust and dirt from hard-to-reach areas. According to Dyson’s first ‘How India Cleans’ Study 2026, 52% of respondents frequently miss cleaning spaces beneath beds and furniture, while 48% find it difficult to clean corners, edges and skirting.
Released on October 26, 2026, the study examines household cleaning habits, everyday frustrations and consumer expectations from modern floorcare technology.

Over 650 Respondents Across Seven Cities
The study surveyed more than 650 respondents across seven Indian cities. It found that over half spend between 30 minutes and one hour cleaning their floors, while another 11% spend between one and two hours.
Despite this effort, achieving a thorough clean remains challenging, particularly in homes with multiple flooring surfaces.
The survey revealed that 72% of respondents have carpets or rugs at home, while 51% reported marble flooring, 49% vitrified or ceramic tiles and 43% granite surfaces.
Hair and Recurring Dust Remain Major Concerns
According to the findings, 36% of respondents identified human or pet hair left behind on floors as a common cleaning frustration.
Meanwhile, 38% reported that dust settles again shortly after cleaning, highlighting the difficulty of removing fine household particles effectively.
Technology Tops Consumer Priorities
When selecting floor-cleaning products, 61% of respondents prioritise better technology, followed by cleaning performance at 54% and brand trust at 49%.
Only 21% identified better prices or promotional offers as a key consideration.
The study also found that vacuum cleaners are increasingly used beyond floors, including on upholstery, mattresses, carpets and beneath furniture.
Dyson V16 Piston Animal Priced at ₹79,900
Addressing these challenges, Dyson highlighted its recently launched V16 Piston Animal cordless vacuum cleaner, available in India for ₹79,900.
The device offers 315AW suction power, anti-tangle technology for long hair and LED illumination to reveal hidden dust.
According to Dyson, the vacuum delivers up to 70 minutes of fade-free suction and features an intelligent cleaner head that automatically adjusts performance across different floor types.
The findings highlight growing consumer demand for advanced cleaning solutions, although the survey’s limited sample should not be considered representative of every Indian household.
