The National Highways Authority of India has said restrictions on vehicles carrying FASTag at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 3 have been removed after authorities intervened over complaints that some cars were being diverted away from departure lanes.
New Delhi, October 15 — The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has said restrictions imposed on vehicles using FASTag at Delhi Airport Terminal 3 have been withdrawn following intervention by the concerned authorities.
The issue came to attention after former NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar complained that vehicles with an annual FASTag pass were not being allowed to enter the departure lanes at Terminal 3.
Kumar said that vehicles were instead being required to maintain a balance in their main FASTag account, failing which they were directed toward the parking area. He criticised the change for being introduced without prior notice or explanation.
Responding to the complaint, Indian Highways Management Company, which manages the FASTag system, said FASTag is intended to function as a payment instrument for parking facilities at airports and should not be used as a mechanism to impose entry restrictions.
The company said the matter had been taken up and the concerned bank was directed to discontinue such restrictions.
NHAI later confirmed that it had coordinated with the relevant stakeholders to address the inconvenience faced by commuters.
Following the intervention, restrictions on vehicles with FASTag at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 3 departure area were removed, restoring access for affected motorists.
The clarification is expected to reduce confusion for passengers using private vehicles and taxis at the airport, particularly those relying on annual FASTag passes.
