Türkiye’s tourism sector reached an unprecedented milestone in 2024, generating a record-breaking US$ 61.1 billion in revenue, marking an 8.3% increase from the previous year. This remarkable growth underscores the country’s strategic positioning in the premium travel segment, reflected in an impressive average visitor spend of US$ 972.

A significant highlight of this surge has been the growing influx of Indian tourists. Visitor numbers from India rose by a staggering 20.7% compared to 2023, making India one of the strongest growth drivers for Türkiye’s tourism industry. This sharp increase can be attributed to enhanced air connectivity between major Indian cities and key Turkish destinations, the rising popularity of Türkiye among Indian wedding planners and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) organisers, and the introduction of tailor-made Turkish experiences catering specifically to Indian preferences.

The tourism board credited this success to its strategic marketing initiatives in India, which have effectively positioned Türkiye as a top choice for Indian travellers. From luxurious destination weddings in scenic locales such as Cappadocia and Antalya to immersive cultural experiences in Istanbul, Türkiye has tailored its offerings to match Indian travelers’ evolving preferences.

While India has emerged as a key growth market, Türkiye’s traditional source markets continue to play a vital role in its tourism expansion. Russia, Germany, and the United Kingdom remained the top three contributors to Türkiye’s tourism influx. Additionally, other emerging markets demonstrated robust growth in visitor numbers, with the United States recording an 8.1% increase and China registering an extraordinary 65.1% surge.

Türkiye’s tourism performance in 2024 has further solidified its standing as one of the world’s top travel destinations. According to UN Tourism, Türkiye was among the top five most visited countries in 2023, and its continued growth this year reinforces its position as a global tourism powerhouse.

With its diverse offerings spanning historical landmarks, stunning coastlines, rich culinary experiences, and vibrant cultural heritage, Türkiye remains a preferred destination for travelers worldwide. The tourism board remains committed to expanding its global outreach, strengthening international partnerships, and enhancing infrastructure to sustain its upward trajectory in the coming years.
