Paris has been named the world’s most attractive city for the fourth consecutive year in Euromonitor International’s 2024 Top 100 City Destinations Index. The ranking evaluates cities based on tourism, sustainability, economic performance, and health and safety. Paris’s stellar year, featuring the Olympics and Notre Dame’s reopening, bolstered its appeal.

Europe dominates the top 10, with Madrid at No. 2, followed by Rome (No. 4), Milan (No. 5), Amsterdam (No. 7), and Barcelona (No. 10). London, despite strong tourism infrastructure, ranked No. 13 due to weaker scores in health, safety, and sustainability.

Asia-Pacific cities performed well, led by Tokyo at No. 3, which benefited from record-low yen rates and surpassed pre-pandemic visitor numbers with 13 million international arrivals. Sydney and Singapore also made the top 10, ranking No. 8 and No. 9, respectively. New York (No. 6) is the only U.S. city in the top 10, while Los Angeles ranked No. 18. Bangkok, which drew 32.4 million international visitors, led in tourism policy and overtook Istanbul, last year’s leader, with 23 million arrivals.

Euromonitor noted global trends like simplified visa processes, electronic travel authorizations, and expanded visa-free entries. However, overtourism has become a pressing issue, prompting cities to adopt measures like tourism taxes and restricted visiting hours to manage crowds effectively.
