Motorola plans to make India export hub

Motorola, which is now owned by Lenovo, is focused on making India an export hub to bolster its thrust towards profitable growth in the country. It is currently exporting around 1-1.5 lakh units from India to markets like West Asia, South Africa and Mexico, as revealed by Prashanth Mani, country head for Lenovo’s mobile business group and MD, Motorola Mobility.  The company has a  manufacturing unit at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu with a capacity of about 12 million units and a workforce of around 4,000 people. He added, “Globally, there are just 2-3 brands which are profitable. Now, Motorola has joined the league… In India, it’s the same approach, we are saying it is not about being number one or number two, but profitable growth.” Motorola is targeting the under-Rs 20,000 value segment in India.
