In August, there was a 9% uptick in retail automobile sales in India. The growth was evident across various categories, such as passenger vehicles and two-wheelers. The combined retail sales across these segments reached 1,818,647 units last month. The same reflected a 9% increase compared to August 2022, when the total stood at 1,674,162 units, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations.

Registrations of passenger vehicles saw a 7% increase, totaling 315,153 units compared to 295,842 units in August 2022. The President of FADA, Manish Raj Singhania, attributed this growth in the passenger vehicle segment to continued positive market conditions, which were supported by enhanced vehicle availability and the extension of customer-oriented schemes.

Likewise, two-wheeler sales witnessed a 6% uptick, reaching 1,254,444 units, compared to 1,180,230 units in the same month of the previous year. Singhania emphasized that although this growth was encouraging, consumer sentiment remained uncertain, which affected conversion rates and heightened competition among major players in the industry.

Commercial vehicle registrations saw a 3% growth, reaching a total of 75,294 units last month. Last year, the number was 72,940 units in the same month. Tractor sales witnessed a notable surge, with a 14% increase, reaching 73,849 units in August. In the three-wheeler segment, retail sales experienced a significant 66% boost, totaling 99,907 units in August, in contrast to 60,132 units in August 2022.
