India rises to 52nd position in Global Innovation Index

In a positive development for the country, India has jumped 5 places from its 57th rank last year to its current 52nd position in the Global Innovation Index. “The culture of innovation is taking centre stage in the country. India is well poised to focus on R&D. This innovation will help us find sustainable solutions to challenges such as growing pollution, food crisis and water crisis,” noted Shri Piyush Goyal at the recent launch of the report in New Delhi. This is the first time that the index was launched in Asia & in an emerging economy.

Mr. Naresh Prasad, Assistant Director General, World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) observed that in the last five years, India’s ranking increased from 81 to 52. This commendable achievement has been attributed to the enhanced innovation ecosystem fostered by the several measures of the Indian government in the past.
