Hiring activity hits a two-year high in September

According to the latest report by Foundit Insights Tracker, hiring activity reached a two-year high in September 2024, with a 27% increase in fresh hiring across white-collar jobs. Hiring has gained momentum across all sectors including the IT sector, banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector, and manufacturing sector.

In September 2024, hiring activity reached a two-year high, with a 27% surge in fresh white-collar job openings, according to the Foundit Insights Tracker.

The report highlighted that recruitment grew across all sectors, marking a positive trend in the job market. The IT sector showed signs of recovery, driving job creation and reinforcing its vital role in the economy. Similarly, the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sector experienced strong online hiring, spurred by favorable investment conditions and digital expansion. The manufacturing sector also saw a 48% year-on-year increase in hiring, driven by demand in industries such as electronics, chemicals, automobiles, FMCG, and textiles.

In terms of job roles, the hospitality sector stood out with a 35% annual growth, reflecting the industry’s focus on personalized and technology-driven services. Finance and accounting professionals also witnessed double-digit growth both annually and monthly. Demand for senior management, IT, finance, sales, and customer service roles grew notably over the past month, with hospitality professionals seeing the highest demand.

“Hospitality professionals saw the highest demand among job roles with notable growth also seen in senior management (15% month-on-month growth), IT (6%), finance (16%), sales (7%), and customer service (10%) roles over the past month,” the report noted.

Interestingly, job seekers’ interest in work-from-home arrangements has been declining, indicating a potential shift toward hybrid or more structured work environments. Hiring momentum extended to major cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad, with tier-II cities also seeing strong growth. Coimbatore led all cities with a 55% year-on-year hiring increase.
