Gujarat secures Rs 15,000 crore semiconductor investments

Agreements worth Rs 15,000 crore were signed on the first day of the Gujarat SemiConnect Conference, including major investments from global firms. NextGen committed Rs 10,000 crore for a semiconductor fab, while Jabil India, Tata Electronics, and Taiwan’s TSMT also announced key projects.

On the opening day of the Gujarat SemiConnect Conference, agreements signaling a potential investment of nearly Rs 15,000 crore in the semiconductor sector were signed, including proposals from international firms, a senior government official stated. Among these, NextGen committed Rs 10,000 crore to establish a compound semiconductor fab and opto-electronics facility, signing an agreement with the Gujarat government. The three-day conference is being held at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar.

Various MoUs (Memorandums of Understanding) indicating a potential investment of Rs 15,000 crore in the semiconductor sector in Gujarat were signed between stakeholders, including the state government, on the first day of the conference,” said Principal Secretary (Department of Science and Technology) Mona Khandhar.

At the inaugural event, US electronics manufacturer Jabil India entered into an MoU with the Gujarat government to develop a silicon photonics manufacturing facility with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore. Additionally, Tata Electronics and IIT Gandhinagar signed an agreement to enhance semiconductor-related skills.

A tripartite MoU was also signed between Tata Electronics, Taiwan’s PSMC, and Himax Technologies for an upcoming semiconductor chip manufacturing facility in Dholera, Ahmedabad district. Taiwan Surface Mounting Technology (TSMT) also committed over Rs 500 crore to establish a new Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) unit in Gujarat, expected to generate 1,000 jobs.

Kaynes Technology held a groundbreaking ceremony for its outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Ahmedabad district, with production set to commence in January 2026. During the event, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also initiated groundwork for a new hospital, an international school, and a fire station in the Dholera Special Investment Region, Khandhar stated.
