Govt eases import norms for raw, and calcined pet coke

The import of raw pet coke (RPC) and calcined pet coke (CPC) will be allowed solely to meet the domestic requirements of the aluminium industry and other industries.

The government has relaxed import regulations for raw and calcined pet coke, allowing these imports to fully meet the domestic needs of industries such as aluminium, among others. Previously, imports were restricted solely to the aluminium industry. The  Pet coke is commonly used for fuel purposes.

In a notification, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) stated, “Import of RPC (raw pet coke) and CPC (calcined pet coke) shall be permitted to cater entirely to the domestic needs of aluminium industry and other industries.” 

The forest, environment, and climate change department of Odisha has been allowed an additional time of 12 months for export of red sanders heart wood in log form, according to a separate notification.

This endangered wood, protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), is primarily found in the Seshachalam hill ranges of Kadapa, Chittoor, Kurnool in Rayalaseema, and parts of Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh.

Red sanders is in high demand internationally, especially in China and Japan, where it fetches a high price. It is prized for its role in traditional medicine and woodcraft throughout China, Myanmar, Japan, and East Asia
