In a significant advancement for quantum computing, Google has unveiled a remarkable claim regarding their latest quantum computer’s computational speed. According to their announcement, this cutting-edge machine can execute calculations instantaneously, surpassing the capabilities of the world’s most powerful supercomputers by a staggering margin of 47 years to complete the same computations.

Google, a leading technology giant, has consistently been at the forefront of the quantum race, asserting its quantum supremacy in 2019. However, this claim made by Google was met with skepticism from its competitors, who questioned the alleged superiority of Google’s 53-qubit machine over conventional supercomputers. Google has since created an even more potent quantum computer that is intended to stop any further discussion.

In comparison to the previous model’s 53 qubits, the new quantum marvel has 70 qubits. This advancement in quantum computing is crucial since each additional qubit exponentially increases the machine’s computational power. The result is that the most recent device is astonishingly 241 million times more potent than its 2019 counterpart.

The researchers at Google have determined that Frontier, the current top-performing supercomputer, would require 6.18 seconds to complete a calculation that Google’s 53-qubit machine can accomplish instantaneously. Furthermore, it would take Frontier approximately 47.2 years to match the computation capabilities of Google’s latest 70-qubit quantum computer.

Google’s recent paper highlights the sensitive operating conditions of quantum computers, where even the slightest interference or noise can disturb the quantum states of the qubits. However, Google showed how larger quantum computers can efficiently handle this noise, assuring their sustained processing performance.
