A new streaming device, called the Google TV Streamer, has been launched by Google to replace the Chromecast line. It has been stated that, unlike the Chromecast’s small dongle form factor, the TV Streamer features a traditional set-top-box design. It has been mentioned by Google that its latest streaming device offers more performance and supports 4K HDR with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Currently exclusive to the US market, the Google TV Streamer is available for pre-orders at a price of $99.99 and will be up for sale on September 24.

It was described by Google that the TV Streamer is designed to sit in front of the TV, rather than being tucked behind. Available in Porcelain and Hazel colours, it features a sleek low-profile form. The voice remote has also been redesigned, with improved ergonomics and a new button layout optimized for hands of all sizes. A customizable button for opening a preferred app is also included.

Access to over 700,000 movies and shows through streaming apps such as YouTube TV, Netflix, Disney Plus, Apple TV, and more is offered by the TV Streamer, as stated by Google. Additionally, live TV access for over 800 channels is provided. It has been indicated that the Google TV streamer utilises Google AI to curate content suggestions across app subscriptions based on user preferences. With Google Gemini on Google TV, users can ask for summaries, reviews, and breakdowns of content. In Ambient Mode, a personalized screensaver art for an idle TV can be created using generative AI capabilities, with users inputting their prompt via voice for the feature to generate a screensaver.

The performance of the streaming device has been improved by Google using the new form factor. The Google TV Streamer comes with an improved processor, double the RAM of the previous generation Chromecast device, and offers 32GB of storage space. Support for 4K HDR with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos is provided for a more immersive content watching experience. Additionally, users have the option to connect the device using the Ethernet port, in addition to Wi-Fi.
