CIM discusses roadmap to achieve US$ 100 bn textile exports

The government is targeting US$250 billion in textiles production and exports worth US$100 billion by 2030.

Mr. Piyush Goyal, the Minister for Textiles, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Commerce and Industry discussed the roadmap to achieve the target of US$250 billion in domestic textiles production and US$100 billion in textile exports by 2030.

The Minister highlighted the need for collective commitment to establish India in the global market.

At the Chintan Shivir organized by the Ministry of Textiles, to brainstorm on various issues relating to the textile sector, the Minister asked the officers to suggest some innovative ideas. He also emphasized the importance of streamlining the institutional structure for better service delivery. 

Group Brainstorming sessions, at the Chintan Shivir, were held on five themes. The 5 themes were: 

  • Promoting Exports
  • Investment- Building Size and Scale
  • Sustainability
  • Shift from Natural to Man Made Fibre 
  • Improving Service Delivery

Detailed presentations were made by the respective groups. They gave specific recommendations and solutions to the problems. 

The Team Building session organized by the representatives from the Capacity Building Commission provided an opportunity for enhancing communication and interaction with the participants.

The textile and apparel industry contributes over 4% to India’s total GDP. It represents more than 14% of the country’s annual export earnings. It is thus, India’s largest manufacturing sector. India’s annual textile exports In FY 2022 were worth US$44.4 billion, showing a growth of 41% compared to the last year.

Currently, India is the second-largest manufacturer of textiles and garments in the world, behind China.
