Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) and TotalEnergies have formed a 50:50 joint venture to manage a portfolio of solar projects totaling 1,150 MW. These projects are located in Khavda, Gujarat, at the site of what will become the world’s largest renewable energy facility. As part of the JV, AGEL will contribute its existing assets, while TotalEnergies plans to invest $444 million to expedite the development of these solar projects.

This partnership underscores both companies’ commitment to accelerating India’s transition to renewable energy. The generated electricity from these solar projects will be sold through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) as well as on the wholesale market.

AGEL is developing the renewable energy facility on 538 square kilometres of arid land in Khavda, an area five times the size of Paris. The company has already brought online 2,250 MW of solar and wind energy capacity at the site. Once completed, the facility is expected to create over 15,200 green jobs and supply affordable clean energy to more than 16 million Indian households. Additionally, it will help prevent over 58 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

The transaction is pending customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Through this joint venture, AGEL and TotalEnergies aim to drive forward India’s renewable energy ambitions and deliver green energy at an unprecedented scale and pace.
