The Ministry of Heavy Industries expressed optimism about electric two-wheelers, stating that they are expected to comprise around 60-70% of the total two-wheelers in operation on the roads.
Kamran Rizvi, secretary of Heavy Industries stated that people are keen to adopt the electrical vehicles (EVs). It is anticipated that almost 12 lakh scooters will be sold this year. By 2030, 60-70% of two-wheeler EVs and in a few years 70-75% of three-wheeler EVs are expected to be sold. In the upcoming months the aim is to sell one lakh cars or more than that, said Rizvi.
There are 9.4 lakhs of EVs which have been sold so far said the Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath. To reduce India’s import dependence, the production-linked incentive (PLI) would help by supporting domestic manufacturing and it will also be helpful for battery development in the country.
“India will become a major battery manufacturing hub in the coming years. We have also found lithium deposits in Jammu and Kashmir,” said Nath. He further added that EVs have grown from 0.13% in 2019-20 to 4.3% now.
